Make the most of your grey hair with these smart tips to embrace shades of slate and silver.

Cover Up

For those who haven’t fully committed to going grey, there are plenty of quick and easy options to conceal regrowth between salon visits.

Powder sprays with fine pigments can amp up highlights while subtly hiding grey strands or roots. Other temporary options that will last until washed out with shampoo include touch up pencil style sticks or mascaras. An in-salon glossing treatment can be a great longer-term option for covering up grey and making hair look super-healthy.

Nourish

Grey hair can often feel very dry, brittle and wiry, due to the loss of melanin. Strengthening is key, so invest in regular, nourishing at-home masks to improve texture and hydration without weighing hair down.

An in-salon keratin smoothing treatment will also help with unruly texture, but if the budget won’t stretch try a blow dry at home with Keratin Complex Infusion which will infuse keratin proteins into the cuticle to help strengthen and repair the hair. Even an inexpensive treatment mask at home can help smooth kinks and reduce frizz.

Enhance

Grey hair will always look best with regular trims and care, but there are products that will boost the shine factor and help it look healthy.

As with all shades, healthy locks start with a healthy scalp – try a purifying and cleansing hair scrub. A thickening or volumizing shampoo, meanwhile, will help enhance very fine grey hair.

Serums and shine sprays can help you fake the gloss temporarily, and there are products with silver hair enhancers like Keracolor Color + Clenditioner in Silver

Tone

A good toner is crucial for maintaining grey and blonde locks. It will reduce brassiness and neutralise any yellowy or copper tones that can be common due to oxidation and the lack of natural pigment in the hair.

Some women aren’t fans, as certain products can give an undesirable blue or purple tinge to the hair, but once you find one that works for you, you’ll be hooked. The best will remove unwanted tones while also brightening and repairing hair. Use a toner in place of your regular shampoo every two to four washes.
